Haldor Topsøe A/S gets better with ISO/TS 16949
ISO/TS 16949 forces us to constantly improve. The annual audit is a good opportunity to have a close look at the company. It also gives the management awareness and emphasis behind the improvements planned to be implemented. The large focus on cross-cutting processes, which ISO/TS 16949 has, also challenges us to think more across the company and to keep the customer in focus in everything we do.
Initially, it was about meeting the customer's requirements. It is a matter of course. But it was just as well that Haldor Topsøe wanted to be constantly challenged and improved as a company, which the TS certification, in collaboration with Bureau Veritas' auditors, provides as an opportunity.
"We have learned that we can apply ISO/TS 16949 across the entire company. The tools in the standard can be used everywhere, and we also use them in parts of the factory that are not ISO/TS 16949 certified. We use FMEA in particular as it is a really good tool, which is easy to use. In this way, the certification covers both the products supplied to the automotive industry, but also the products supplied to other customers."
The road into the automotive industry
The collaboration between Haldor Topsøe and Bureau Veritas is nothing new. The collaboration has been going on since the early 1990s, when Haldor Topsøe got their first certificate. Bureau Veritas looks through the company from top to bottom - both within quality, environment and work environment. But in order for Haldor Topsøe A/S to serve their automotive customers, they needed another certification. The Automotive industry-specific standard ISO/TS 16949.
The aim of the certification was to meet the requirements of automotive customers, but the company has achieved a large number of other results as they use the certification across the entire company. This means that some of the TS tools, such as the FMEA tool, are also used on parts of the factory that are not ISO/TS 16949 certified. The standard not only ensures that customer requirements are met, but also that Haldor Topsøe is challenged and constantly improving.
ISO/TS 16949 is the foundation
"Our ISO/TS 16949 certification is the foundation for us to deliver to our Automotive customers and affects the way we work on continuous improvements. Some of the TS tools we have been introduced to throughout the certification process, including FMEA, we now also work in other parts of the factory that are not TS certified.
The certification forces us to keep getting better and the annual audit is a good reason to have the system checked through. It also gives the management attention to the improvements to be implemented. The great focus on cross-cutting processes that TS has also challenges us to think more across the company and to keep the customer in focus in everything we do."
