Is sustainability worth investing in? | Climate politics seen from Christiansborg
As Tommy Ahlers left the Danish television program ”Løvens hule” and stepped right onto the top shelf of politics as Minister of Education and Research in the government governed by Lars Løkke in 2018, it was quite sensational in Danish politics. A gamble that could go both ways but which was fortunately successful. Actually to such an extent that he was praised by his political opponents, which is not normal in Danish politics. »Tommy must be the minister receiving most credit and it is well-deserved because he has really performed well«, wrote for instance Jakob Mark from SF (Socialist People’s Party) at Twitter. The minister especially focuses on two areas: Technology and green transition. Therefore, it was not strange that he in 2019 became the Liberals’ climate spokesman and thus the front-line fighter of the party in climate negotiations which are at the top of the political agenda in Denmark.
