Datacentereffektivitet og verifikation af bæredygtighed, Bureau Veritas

Data center efficiency & sustainability verification

Data centers are at the heart of our digital world, now recognized as being as important as other utilities, their staff are classified as key workers. With increasing digitization of media, business, cloud computing and the arrival of artificial intelligence the sector is growing fast, and with that growth comes increasing energy and water consumption and its resulting impact.

Aware of their growing carbon footprint, and impending regulation in many parts of the world, data center operators, who have already been sourcing renewably generated electricity, are now working to voluntarily demonstrate their responsible business practices, with initiatives like the Climate Neutral Data Center Pact (CNDCP).  The CNDCP targets its member organizations, a mixture of over 80 operators and 22 industry associations, with a Self-Regulatory Initiative (SRI) to demonstrate with a voluntary third party certification, that they are climate neutral by 2030, in alignment with the European Union’s targets.

Bureau Veritas have been directly involved on behalf of the TIC Council and the European Commission, in developing an Assessment Framework in compliance to the EU Taxonomy’s technical screening criteria and the EU Code of Conduct for Data Centre Efficiency. In working with the members of the European Data Center Association (EUDCA) and CNDCP SRI, Bureau Veritas is aligned with the requirements of compliance to the range of legislation including the EU Taxonomy , EU Energy Efficiency Directive (EED)  and the Corporate Sustainability Reporting Directive (CSRD).

Verification by an experienced and trusted body like Bureau Veritas sends a powerful message about the strength of your company’s commitment to achieving sustainable operations. Bureau Veritas, is one of the certification bodies authorised to use the assessment frameworks to verify the compliance of individual data centres, operators, or specific tenants, whether they be signatories to the CNDCP SRI or wish to use the EU Commission Taxonomy Assessment Framework for Data Centres.

key benefits

  • Report your alignment

    with the EU Taxonomy

  • Prove your commitment

    to efficency & sustainability principles

  • Build trust among stakeholders

    with a third party-verified report

  • Boost your reputation

    With independent verification

The bureau veritas verified report can be shared as needed with key stakeholders and will cover:

  • Utilization – Utilize servers up to full capacity, remove unused servers, audit and optimise existing equipment and use of space
  • Sustainability – Clean energy - sourced from renewables or green tariffs to ensure 100% carbon free.
  • Energy efficiency – demonstrate Power Use Effectiveness (PUE) with adherence to ISO/IEC 30134-2  and management of operations in line with ISO 50001 Energy Management Systems.
  • Water conservation – demonstrate Water Use Effectiveness (WUE) in cooling or other application with adherence to ISO/IEC 30134-9
  • Circular economy – demonstrate the reuse, repair and recycling of servers, electrical equipment and other related electrical components
  • Circular energy systems – capitalize on data centre heat capture/ heat re-use to conserve energy such as interconnection with district heating systems and other users of heat
