ISO 45001 ensures a healthy working climate at Sygehus Sønderjylland

A sunny summer’s day in August, Bureau Veritas Denmark handed over a certificate that Sygehus Sønderjylland has implemented the international standard of work environment, ISO 45001.

On Tuesday 31 August 2021, CEO at Sygehus Sønderjylland, Peter Fosgrau, received an ISO 45001 certificate documenting that their organization is certified according to the international standard of work environment.

It is important to state that the certificate is not the important part. It is the certification behind it that is important. A good working environment is very important at our hospital,” says Peter Fosgrau as he received the certificate from Bureau Veritas Denmark.

The journey with the ISO 45001 standard has thus only just begun for Sygehus Sønderjylland. The organisation looks forward to continuing their work with the systematic approach of the work environment standard regarding improvement of the working environment and employees’ well-being.

Knowledge and competences through ISO 45001 training

It is important for Sygehus Sønderjylland that all employees involved in the work environment system have the necessary knowledge and the right competences. Therefore, some of the organization’s employees have attended ISO 45001 courses at Bureau Veritas Denmark.

”At Sygehus Sønderjylland competency development is highly emphasised and therefore, three employees have received ISO 45001 Lead Auditor training during a five-day period at Bureau Veritas Denmark,” says Working Environment Consultant, Patricia Rose Marie Bladt, and the competency development does not end here:

”To be dressed to implement the new ISO 45003 guideline, Sygehus Sønderjylland also follows Bureau Veritas’ training with three independent training parts regarding the content of ISO 45003, implementation of ISO 45003 and audit with ISO 45003,” she tells.
 

ISO 45003 regarding job satisfaction and psychological work environment

Sygehus Sønderjylland finds a healthy and safe working environment decisive for solving core tasks; nursing and treatment of patients. Therefore, ISO 45001 is supplemented with ISO 45003 for job satisfaction and psychological work environment, as employees’ well-being very much influences patient satisfaction and thus the core tasks.

”The purpose of participating in Bureau Veritas’ courses in the ISO 45003 guideline of job satisfaction and psychological work environment is to implement ISO 45003 in the organization before the next external audit by Bureau Veritas Denmark in 2022,” tells Patricia Rose Marie Bladt.

Thus, it is essential for Sygehus Sønderjylland that their employees have a profound understanding of ISO 45001 as well as ISO 45003. The latter describes the expectations in connection with the handling of job satisfaction and psychological work environment in a work environment management system according to ISO 45001.
