Certifications strengthen the CSR efforts at EGE CARPETS

Many years of certification cooperation with Bureau Veritas have helped Ege Carpets take the lead within environmental and occupational health management and CSR
It has always been important for Ege Carpets to be able to document their efforts to their customers. Therefore, the company has worked with Bureau Veritas since 1992 where Ege Carpets obtained its first ISO 9001 certification. Since then, the company extended with an ISO 14001 certification, a ISO 45001 certification and latest in 2013 with a DS 49001 certification regarding social responsibility.
”Documentation and transparency create trust in our company, and it is important for us that our customers can rely 100% on that we know what we do. At the same time, certified management system are good tools for us to ensure clear lines in our everyday work. Management systems make up the manual of our work and ensure that we constantly follow up on things and that we continuously develop our efforts” tells Dorthe Aaboe Kallestrup, CSR Manager at Ege Group. At the same time, she praises their cooperation with Bureau Veritas:
”As a company it might seem transgressive that external auditors watch over your shoulders but in reality this is a huge help for us. Bureau Veritas acts as a competent sparring partner with whom we can share experience and knowledge which we can turn into actions at our company. When an audit points out an issue, we get extra ammunition to implement the necessary changes so we can become the best version of ourselves. And precisely this is the purpose of a certification; that you continuously improve your efforts.”
”CSR equals a LICENSE TO OPERATE”
Dorthe Aaboe Kallestrup makes no secret of the fact that she recommends companies to work concentrated with their CSR efforts – for the company’s own sake as well as the sake of future generations. She points out that most companies – without thinking about it – are already involved in many CSR activities which DS 49001 can help systemise:
”This standard can contribute to exposing the efforts so the company can start using these actively to be even better and at the same time create a positive attention regarding its efforts. As a company you should not be blind to the fact that behaving responsible is good branding. It is important for many consumers/citizens/employees/juveniles that companies behave responsibly and work with CSR. Soon CSR will be equal to a license to operate,” tells Dorthe Aaboe Kallestrup and confirms that Ege Carpets will also spend a lot of time on CSR in the future:
”Recently, we launched a new sustainability strategy based on UN’s sustainable development goals no. 12, 14 and 7. Our strategy is to create a sustainable future – one carpet at a time. Our goal is to manufacture sustainable carpets in a closed circuit by creating resources out of waste and at the same time become CO2 positive. Several years ago, we decided to be the best carpet manufacturer in the world regarding CSR, so we also aim high within this field. Among other things, DS 49001 is going to help us reach this goal” concludes Dorthe Aaboe Kallestrup.
