Meyers kantiner has been ISO 14001 certified

On a sunny summer’s day, Bureau Veritas handed over a certificate stating that purchase, sales and operational management have been ISO 14001 certified at Meyers Kantiner due to their efforts within the environmental area.

Environmental and social responsibility is the core of Meyers Kantiner’s business strategy. Since 1999 Meyers Kantiner has run canteens in many of Denmark’s leading, private companies and public authorities in consideration of sustainability, the environment and the climate.

Thus, it was a natural step for Meyers Kantiner to be ISO 14001 certified by Bureau Veritas and establish an environmental management system to ensure that the company has the right processes to develop, measure and evaluate its environmental goals.

”As a food industry we are aware that we have a large responsibility in connection with running a responsible business taking the climate, humans and the environment into consideration. With the ISO 14001 certificate we document that we live up to our goals and continuously make new ambitious goals. This creates value for us as well as our clients” says Liselotte Lybæk, Operational Manager at Meyers Kantiner.

ISO 14001 training has created a mutual basis

An ISO 14001 certification is obtained after an exhaustive process where all employees in Meyers Kantiner’s purchase, sales and operational departments were trained and audited in Meyers Kantiner’s environmental handbook. Several employees also participated in Bureau Veritas’ ISO 14001 training.

”It is important for us to have the same basis and the same material to ensure uniformity and a high quality across our departments” says Liselotte Lybæk and emphasizes that training and courses have been a decisive factor for creating a joint foundation.

Lotte Schantz Christensen, Environmental Consultant at Meyers Kantiner, is one of the employees who has participated in ISO 14001 training at Bureau Veritas: ”The training helped make the standard ”alive” which means that it was easier to work on the basis of the standard and transform it into action in our own company afterwardsshe tells.

ISO 14001 is just the beginning

With a strong basis and a common understanding of environmental management, Meyers Kantiner looks forward to continuing their work with ISO 14001. This includes internal audits, management evaluation, ongoing follow-up on goals and other initiatives inciting employees to contribute with unexploited possibilities of improvements.

”With the ISO 14001 certification we can constantly remind ourselves of our environmental conditions and goals, make improvements and evaluate. It is a constant process in which we scrutinise ourselves and in which we are regularly audited by Bureau Veritas” tells Lotte Schantz Christensen, Environmental Consultant, who is the head of the internal certification process at Meyers Kantiner.

At Meyers Kantiner, the ISO 14001 certification is a part of a long-term effort, and the process is continued in the late summer to achieve more certifications of sustainable canteen operation. In connection with this the company will use its experience from the ISO 14001 certification process.
